Japan is preparing to launch a new luxury tourist train named Gran Tenku, operated by Nankai Electric Railways, on April 24, 2026. This train will transport passengers from Namba Station in Osaka to the historic Gokurakubashi Station in Wakayama Prefecture, providing easy access to Koyasan, a renowned Buddhist temple settlement. The Gran Tenku will feature four unique cars, with the fourth car offering gourmet meals prepared by chef Atsushi Motokawa, highlighting local ingredients such as Kawachi duck and Senshu octopus alongside complimentary beverages. Renovations at Platform 0 of Namba Station will provide an exclusive boarding area for this luxury service, incorporating modern aesthetic elements to match the opulence of the train ride. The new tourist train represents a shift in Japan's travel landscape, as it aims to attract more visitors to rural destinations, especially following a surge in international arrivals that peaked at 42.7 million in 2025.
