In February 2022, former Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a remarkable €100 billion plan to modernize the German armed forces by 2028, declaring it a turning point in the nation's defense capacity. Since then, approximately 47,000 procurement contracts valued at €111 billion ($130 billion) have been signed. However, the German Defense Ministry is unable to provide information on how many of these contracts have been executed or the amount of equipment delivered to date. German military support for Ukraine has also been substantial, with reported aid reaching €44 billion ($52 billion). The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute highlights a 14% increase in European military expenditure, contributing to a global total nearing $3 trillion by 2025.
