The company plans to invest up to £950 million to enhance the resilience and capacity of the 113 cables that currently link 60 islands, addressing the increasing demand for electricity. This upgrade is expected to support developments in electric vehicle charging, solar panel installation, and heat pump connections, as well as facilitate local energy generators who wish to produce and export green power. The initiative is projected to generate thousands of high-quality green jobs, with an estimated 450 specialized positions created annually over the next eight years, leading to potentially over 3,500 fixed-term roles at installation sites and company bases in the region.
