Story

In the United States, Silvestri Sweets Inc. announced a voluntary recall for two varieties of its Choceur-branded Holiday Barks due to potential allergen risks. The products in question include the Cookie Butter flavor and the Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon flavor. This recall was prompted by a packaging error where the Cookie Butter Holiday Bark was incorrectly placed in the packaging meant for the Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon variant and vice versa. As a result, consumers purchasing the cookie butter bark may unknowingly receive a product that contains undeclared pecans, while the pecan, cranberry & cinnamon bark may have undeclared wheat. Both of these ingredients are significant allergens that can pose severe health risks. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) highlighted the seriousness of undeclared allergens, noting that they can trigger life-threatening allergic reactions in individuals with sensitivities to these substances. Although no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported in connection with this recall, Silvestri Sweets is urging customers to dispose of any affected products to mitigate risk. The affected packages can be identified by their lot numbers: lot number 29225 with a best-by date of May 2026 for the cookie butter flavor, and also lot number 29225 with a best-by date of August 2026 for the pecan, cranberry & cinnamon flavor. Consumers with concerns or inquiries can reach Silvestri Sweets directly at their customer service number during business hours. Moreover, this recall is part of a larger trend in the U.S. concerning food safety, with multiple allergen-related recalls having occurred this year alone. Last month, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams voluntarily recalled a batch of its Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars because these bars contained undeclared wheat and soy due to a mix-up during manufacturing, further underscoring the ongoing vigilance needed in food production and labeling.
