Story

In the Spring of 2026, the new all-electric Mercedes-Benz GLB is set to debut in the UK, showcasing a modern take on an electric compact SUV. The vehicle measures 60mm longer in wheelbase than its predecessor, providing a spacious cabin equipped with family-friendly features and options for five or seven seating configurations. The interior design emphasizes a luxurious feel, highlighted by ambient lighting with 11 color themes and a panoramic roof that transforms from opaque to transparent, enhancing the overall ambiance. Practicality is also a major selling point, with ample boot space and a sliding rear bench to maximize legroom and luggage capacity. The new GLB is underpinned by the latest Mercedes EQ Technology, featuring an 85kWh battery coupled with an 800-volt charging system. This enables rapid charging capabilities, allowing up to 162 miles of range in just ten minutes at 320kW DC charging stations. In addition to high-speed DC charging, home charging options at 22kW are available for those with proper wiring. Stating its efficiency at 93%, the GLB integrates innovative elements such as a new two-speed transmission to enhance both performance and energy economy. Furthermore, it introduces the seamless MBUX Superscreen, unifying driver and passenger displays into a single digital interface, enriched with interactive voice control powered by AI. Beyond its performance and aesthetic considerations, the GLB is designed to promote sustainability. It supports bidirectional charging, enabling the EV to supply power back to homes or contribute to the electrical grid in the future. Additionally, the vehicle is integrated with the MB.CHARGE Public system which grants access to a vast network of charging stations, including green charging options sourced from renewable energy. This reflects Mercedes-Benz's commitment to sustainability. Mathias Geisen, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes, highlighted the versatility of the new GLB, stating that it can support diverse needs, including the ability to tow a full-size caravan. Overall, the new Mercedes-Benz GLB aims to blend luxury with practicality, while pushing the envelope on electric vehicle technology and family-oriented features. Mercedes prepares to launch this innovative vehicle at an expected starting price of around £50,000 in the UK.
