Story

In the United States, Arby’s, a popular fast-food sandwich chain, has faced significant challenges with the closure of over a dozen of its restaurants in 2025. The shutdowns have affected various states, including Tennessee, Florida, California, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington, and South Carolina. Notably, four restaurants in Tennessee were closed, particularly in Cordova, Germantown, and Memphis, which saw closures in October, while a Murfreesboro location was shut down in July. In Florida, four locations in the Jacksonville area were reported closed as of early 2025. Other closures included restaurants in Fresno and Victorville in California, shut down in September and November, respectively. Further, a Talleyville location in Delaware closed in June, a location in Laurel, Maryland, closed in March, and an Audubon outlet in New Jersey was shuttered in January. A restaurant in Pullman, Washington was reported closed in June, along with a location in North Charleston, South Carolina, which shut down in July. Founded in 1964, Arby’s is part of Inspire Brands, a conglomerate that owns six restaurant chains. Despite operating over 3,600 locations across six global markets and holding a competitive position within the fast-food sandwich category, Arby’s confronted significant issues in 2024, leading to a decline in sales by 6.3 percent and the closure of a net 48 restaurants. This resulted in it being rated near the bottom in the limited-service sandwich segment. Although facing adversity, Arby’s remains third in the fast-food sandwich ranking in the U.S., trailing only Subway and Panera, while ahead of Jersey Mike’s and Jimmy John’s.
