In late 2022, Qatar announced a substantial investment initiative in Lebanon to address the nation's severe electricity crisis and support the repatriation of Syrian refugees. Qatar's financial injection includes a $40 million grant specifically for improving electricity services and a further $360 million dedicated to various projects aimed at revitalizing the sector, which is projected to benefit 1.5 million of Lebanon's residents. In addition to addressing the electricity sector, the Qatari minister also outlined plans to assist Syrian refugees in Lebanon, showcasing a commitment to humanitarian aid and regional stability. The initiative includes facilitating the return of 100,000 refugees from Lebanon to Syria, with an initial budget of $20 million allocated for this purpose. Support for these refugees will encompass provisions for housing and necessary funds for food and medical needs for three months upon their return. The Syrian government, maintaining strong ties with Qatar, is expected to assist in the logistics of this repatriation.
