This alarming trend has been highlighted in a joint bulletin from the Five Eyes alliance, which includes security agencies from the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The bulletin indicates that undercover agents are posing as fake recruitment agents on legitimate job sites such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and Upwork, aiming to identify individuals who have access to sensitive information. The recruitment strategy involves posting fake job advertisements for analyst positions, followed by a meticulous process of sifting through applicants' CVs to pinpoint those who could be exploited for intelligence purposes. The targeted individuals range from security clearance holders to academics and think tank employees, all of whom could potentially provide valuable insights into military, political, and economic matters. The Five Eyes agencies have expressed concern that these espionage efforts are designed to give China a strategic advantage over allied nations.
