A second officer from Greater Manchester Police is now facing a criminal investigation for assault following an incident at Manchester Airport last month, as confirmed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). This development comes after a video surfaced showing a man being kicked and punched by a police officer during the altercation on July 23. The IOPC initiated an investigation into the first officer shortly after the incident was reported. On August 6, the IOPC received an additional referral from Greater Manchester Police, which included a complaint detailing multiple allegations from one of the individuals involved in the initial incident. This referral prompted the IOPC to expand their investigation to include a second officer, who is also being scrutinized for potential gross misconduct related to breaches of police professional standards, particularly concerning the use of force. The investigation will examine the actions taken against three members of the public—two men and a woman—who were involved in the incident, during which the two men were arrested. Furthermore, the inquiry will assess the use of force in a subsequent incident that occurred shortly after, where one of the individuals was reportedly pepper-sprayed.
