The UK is preparing for an intense heatwave this weekend, with temperatures projected to reach as high as 33C (91F) in London. The warm air is expected to flow in from Europe starting Saturday, with overcast skies gradually clearing throughout the day. The warmest days are anticipated to be Sunday and Monday, before temperatures return to average levels by Tuesday, according to the Met Office. In addition to London, other cities will also experience significant warmth, with Manchester forecasted to reach 26C (78F), Glasgow 22C (71F), and Belfast 21C (69F). This surge in temperature is partly attributed to the effects of Storm Debby, which recently impacted parts of the southern United States. Weather experts indicate that the storm is influencing the jet stream, allowing hot air to sweep into the UK. However, the hot weather may be accompanied by heavy showers and thunderstorms in some western, central, and northern regions. Dan Suri, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, noted that while the temperatures will be high, the conditions do not qualify as a heatwave, as they must exceed a specific threshold over three consecutive days to meet that classification. As the UK gears up for this warm spell, residents are advised to stay informed about local weather forecasts and prepare for the potential of fluctuating conditions, including warm nights and possible thunderstorms.
