In March 2026, Equinix initiated the construction of a new data centre in Dublin's Blanchardstown, with an investment amounting to $92 million. The facility, named DB7x, is anticipated to be operational by 2028 and is strategically designed to support the national grid with '100% flexibility'. Notably, Equinix stated that this new data centre will require no additional grid power, utilizing the energy already allocated to the existing site. This initiative adds to the nine data centres currently owned by the company in Dublin, illustrating Equinix's substantial presence in the Irish market. The DB7x facility is planned to be located in close proximity to two existing Equinix data centres, emphasizing enhanced connectivity options for users. Split into two components, the investment will allocate $78 million for the facility itself and an additional $14 million for a retail International Business Exchange (IBX) buildout. This retail capacity is intended to directly support foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ireland, reinforcing Equinix's involvement with over 200 FDI corporations to which it currently provides its infrastructure services.
