A 15-year-old girl from Aspen, Colorado, named Annabelle Carlson, was critically injured in a shark attack while scuba diving in Belize earlier this week. Following her initial treatment, she was transported back to the United States, where she is currently receiving ongoing medical care in a hospital. Local officials, including Andre Perez, Belize's minister of Blue Economy, have reported that Carlson is alive but have yet to assess the full extent of her injuries. The incident occurred near Half Moon Caye, approximately 50 miles south of Belize City, prompting further inquiries into the safety of the area for tourists.
