On February 22, 2026, two homemade explosive devices detonated in the center of Lviv, Ukraine, resulting in a tragic terrorist attack that left one police officer dead and many others injured. According to the Lviv City Council's press service, twelve individuals sustained injuries and were subsequently admitted to hospitals. Among these, three patients are in critical condition and are receiving intensive care at St. Panteleimon Hospital, having undergone complex surgeries due to severe mine-blast injuries. Medical teams have been working diligently to save the lives of those in critical condition, with doctors monitoring their status continuously. At the same time, two other victims with moderate injuries are being treated in the surgical department at St. Luke's Hospital. Overall, there were 24 individuals injured in the explosions, with 11 having already been released after outpatient treatment as their conditions stabilized. The explosions occurred late at night between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., specifically at 20 Danylyshyna Street, causing significant panic and concern across the city. The attacks have highlighted ongoing security threats and the prevalence of homemade explosives, prompting discussions on measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Law enforcement officers quickly responded to the scene of the explosions and have since identified and detained the suspected perpetrator of the attack in Staryi Sambir. These rapid actions have helped in restoring some level of safety and order in the aftermath of the tragedy. Community members and authorities are now grappling with the needs of the victims and looking for ways to support those impacted by this violent crime, while also reinforcing their resolve to ensure the protection of public safety.
