A notable proposal came from Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report, advocating for a potential trade that would send Duran and right-hand pitcher Kutter Crawford to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Ketel Marte, a seasoned infielder and three-time National League All-Star. Duran's affordability and arbitration eligibility could be appealing to the Diamondbacks, while Marte’s substantial contract could present complications for the Red Sox. The trade might also impact the playing time for rookie Marcelo Mayer, who could shift from second base to shortstop or potentially take over Duran’s outfield role.  Despite analyzing the trade opportunities, the likelihood of following through with such a deal remains uncertain due to the financial ramifications involved. The Red Sox owe Marte approximately $102 million on his current contract, as opposed to Duran's relatively low salary of $7.7 million, making the financial aspect a critical consideration in this potential exchange. With five outfielders vying for limited playing time, decisions on who to start and who to bench also complicate the lineup structure, leading management to seek a resolution that optimizes their roster while maintaining balance.  As the regular season approaches, Cora emphasized the team's desire to utilize all five outfielders effectively despite the apparent congestion. However, reports suggest that trading one of these players, likely Duran, may be the most viable solution to enable a cohesive structure in the team’s strategy. Moreover, while each outfielder shows unique strengths, limiting their advance in playing opportunities is not sustainable for the team's overall success.
