Story

On March 8, 2026, Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih led a delegation to Tokyo to participate in Foodex Japan 2026, which runs until March 13. The event highlights the importance of overseas markets for Taiwan's agricultural products, with Japan identified as the second-largest overseas destination for these products. In 2025, Taiwan’s agricultural exports to Japan amounted to approximately US$630 million, featuring key items such as green soybeans, moth orchids, rice, and tuna. The Taiwan pavilion at Foodex showcased an array of highly prized local products including sea bass, carrots, clams, dried guava, mango, sweet potatoes, and tea, all reflecting Taiwan's rich agricultural diversity and quality. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized the proven potential for these items in the Japanese market, aiming to boost sales and gain further market presence. In addition to product displays, Minister Chen engaged with Japanese organic product importers to establish relationships and facilitate exchanges between the two markets. This initiative is part of Taiwan’s broader strategy to assist its farmers and businesses in exporting their goods and tapping into overseas opportunities. Chen’s participation in a promotional soccer event also underscores a creative approach to market Taiwanese fruits like bananas and pineapples, furthering the visibility of Taiwanese products abroad. The overall goal of these efforts is to not only expand market opportunities for Taiwan's agricultural sector but also to enhance bilateral trade relations with Japan.
