This decision, made by Adventure Attractions in partnership with the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council, allows people to enjoy the pier free of charge. The toll suspension is set to last for more than three years and is part of a £700,000 investment to develop the pier and replace the income that would have come from the fees. The changes to the entry policy took effect in 2025, reflecting a growing trend of removing access fees at various visitor attractions in the UK. This strategy is intended not only to increase foot traffic to the pier but also to enhance the local economy by attracting more tourists and encouraging community engagement. The managing director of Adventure Attractions, Sarah Hunter, stated that the initiative aims to make the pier a welcoming place for everyone throughout the year. The positive feedback received from visitors has confirmed that this approach is resonating with the public. Amanda Barrie, the BCP Council's director of commercial operations, stressed that the pier is a cherished landmark, and its open-access model benefits both residents and tourists alike. Additionally, the suspension of the entry fee coincided with an important visit from Prince William on March 19, 2026, who engaged with the local community about homelessness issues, highlighting the pier's importance as a social and cultural venue in the area. The extension of this fee suspension will remain in effect until the end of Adventure Attractions's operational term in October 2029.
