In December 2025, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) made headlines by signing the largest sponsorship agreement in its history with automotive giant Mercedes-Benz. This groundbreaking deal will commence on January 1, 2026, and is reported to significantly surpass the previous record set by medical company Hologic. The agreement is structured through WTA Ventures, the commercial arm of the WTA, which is also at the center of ongoing discussions regarding a possible merger with the ATP Tour for men's tennis. Within the context of these developments, ATP Board members and shareholders of ATP Media had already approved a non-binding agreement for the merger in late 2025. A decision from the WTA regarding this merger is anticipated by the end of the year, which could lead to key decisions concerning revenue sharing and governance structures across both tours. The new partnership with Mercedes-Benz aims to enhance the visibility and commercial strength of the women’s tour, allowing it to attract more investment and partnerships from other brands. In conjunction with this agreement, individual players, including noted World No. 3 Coco Gauff, have started their own partnerships with the car manufacturer. The Mercedes-Benz branding will debut at the Abu Dhabi Open, a significant tournament in the WTA calendar that will occur in early February 2026.
