Story

In the United States, Delta Air Lines has made significant changes to its SkyMiles partnership with Starbucks, responding to customer feedback. The airline's partnership with Starbucks, which began in 2022, initially allowed registered SkyMiles members to earn 1 mile for every dollar spent at participating Starbucks locations. However, in 2024, the program was modified to offer varying miles based on the amount reloaded onto Starbucks cards, with members earning between 25 to 200 miles depending on the reload amount. This change aimed to enhance the earning potential for members who frequently visit Starbucks. Starting August 5, 2026, Delta will revert to the original model of earning 1 mile per dollar spent at Starbucks, a decision made to simplify the earning process and align with customer preferences. Joshua Kaehler, managing director of SkyMiles loyalty partnerships, emphasized the importance of making earning opportunities rewarding and easy for members. He noted that Starbucks is a part of many members' daily routines, and the update aims to strengthen the relationship between Delta and Starbucks while extending the value of SkyMiles beyond just travel. Additionally, some benefits from the previous program will remain, such as Double Stars on Delta travel days and access to exclusive offers and experiences. However, to qualify for the program, members must have flown on a qualifying Delta flight within the last 12 months. Those who have not flown during this period can still earn points through October 5, 2026. With over 41,000 Starbucks locations worldwide, including in 47 of the 50 busiest airports in the U.S., the partnership is expected to continue to provide value to frequent travelers and coffee drinkers alike. The changes reflect Delta's commitment to enhancing customer loyalty and engagement through its partnerships. By listening to member feedback and adjusting the program accordingly, Delta aims to create a more rewarding experience for its SkyMiles members, ensuring that everyday habits contribute to their travel goals.
