In the United Kingdom, Greggs has recently launched a new retail concept called 'Bitesize', targeting high-footfall areas such as train stations. The first of these compact stores opened at Sevenoaks Railway Station last week, marking the beginning of this trial initiative. Each Bitesize store is designed to offer a selection of the bakery's best-selling items, including Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, and various sweet treats, along with Fairtrade hot drinks. This venture is part of Greggs’ broader growth strategy, with a plan to open approximately 120 new shops throughout the year, averaging four new stores each week. On top of this, further Bitesize locations are anticipated to open soon at Dartford Station in Kent and at Cheshire Oaks, both scheduled for December. The rollout of these stores will allow Greggs to assess consumer behavior and operational efficiencies in response to its unique setting within busy travel hubs. It is noteworthy that the establishment of the Bitesize store has led to the creation of 10 new jobs within the local community. In addition to the Bitesize concept, Greggs is diversifying its offerings by venturing into the pub industry. Earlier this year, the bakery opened its first free house, named The Golden Flake Tavern, within the Fenwick Newcastle department store. This establishment features an exclusive drinks menu, including two unique beers created in partnership with a local brewery and a selection of Greggs-inspired pub food.
