In January 2026, severe flooding occurred in Mozambique, affecting approximately 852,000 people and leading to over 200 fatalities according to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management. Responding to the crisis, a 36-member UK International Search and Rescue (ISAR) team, including six firefighters from London, was deployed on a 10-day mission to assist in rescue operations. The teams employed four rescue boats, drones, and specialist equipment to navigate the floodwaters and reach isolated communities severely impacted by the flooding. They managed to save individuals who had been stranded for several days, including vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. During the mission, significant efforts were made to deliver humanitarian aid, transporting nearly 2.9 tonnes of supplies and facilitating medical evacuations.
