Story

In the United States, gas prices have reached near their lowest levels in four years, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday travel period. Data collected on November 25, 2025, indicates that the national average price for a gallon of gas is approximately $3.07. This price represents a slight increase compared to the previous year, but remains significantly lower than Thanksgiving gas prices recorded over the past two years, following the pandemic's impact on demand and pricing strategies in 2020. Thirty states report average gas prices below $3, including states like Colorado, New Hampshire, and Georgia. Oklahoma is leading the country with the lowest average gas price, which is $2.50 per gallon. The cost savings at the pump are attributed to a combination of factors, including a significant drop in crude oil costs, which have fallen around 17% since June of the previous year, now standing at about $63.40 per barrel. The decrease in oil prices coincides with the end of maintenance season for refineries, allowing for increased production of gasoline as refineries resume full capacity. Patrick de Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, notes that this ramp-up in refinery output is crucial for maintaining lower fuel prices, particularly during the typically less demanding autumn months. Despite anticipations of increased gasoline demand during Thanksgiving week, the overall consumption is lower than in summer months. The AAA further notes that the quiet nature of the demand in autumn keeps prices in check. It is predicted that gas prices could potentially fall below $3 per gallon as the holiday season approaches.
