In Ireland, TensorX, an AI infrastructure company, has announced a partnership with finance provider Solstice to develop sovereign European AI infrastructure. This collaboration aims to deliver up to €1 billion worth of AI hardware and data-center capacity to meet the increasing demand for sovereign compute across the European Union. Earlier this month, TensorX successfully raised €8 million in a seed funding round, which its founder Shane Morton described as an initial step towards a larger expansion. The company focuses on connecting startups and enterprises to private compute while ensuring data residency and zero retention on European soil.
The partnership with Solstice is significant as it addresses the growing concerns within the EU regarding the control that US technology companies have over the region's data and infrastructure. Tim Grant, the chair of TensorX, emphasized the need for Europe to develop its own AI capabilities without relying on external cloud services. The collaboration is expected to facilitate the financing of AI hardware and data-center build-outs, which are crucial for meeting the accelerating demand for sovereign AI solutions.
Solstice, part of the Deus X Capital ecosystem, will introduce a yield asset named 'aiUSX' to help companies finance their AI infrastructure projects. This innovative approach allows businesses to utilize capital they already possess while ensuring liquidity. Ben Nadareski, CEO of Solstice, highlighted that as every company transitions into an AI entity, managing inference costs becomes increasingly important. The aiUSX asset aims to provide companies with access to AI-infrastructure lending that was previously limited to larger institutions.
The EU's push for sovereign AI is driven by a desire for data security and compliance with local laws. According to data from Accenture, 62% of European organizations are seeking sovereign AI solutions, and Gartner predicts that 75% of European enterprises will shift their AI workloads to local providers by 2030. This trend indicates that sovereign AI represents one of the most significant infrastructure developments of the decade, relying heavily on both capital investment and technological advancements. As TensorX builds the necessary compute infrastructure, Solstice's financing capabilities will enable more companies to participate in this transformative initiative.
