Taiwan has been actively participating in international events to showcase its capabilities, particularly in technology and sustainability. The Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo 2026, held from April 27-29, provided a platform for Taiwan to demonstrate its achievements. The National Development Council led a delegation consisting of 27 startups, facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange between Taiwanese and Japanese innovation sectors. Notably, key partnerships were formed to enhance business opportunities and technological collaboration. Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming represented Taiwan at the event, emphasizing the importance of digital transformation and sustainable practices. His participation included interaction with prominent figures such as Yuriko Koike, governor of Tokyo, and Liisa-Ly Pakosta, Estonia's minister focused on justice and digital affairs. Peng praised the significance of technological advancement in environmental governance and highlighted Taiwan's initiatives aimed at achieving seamless integration of digital tools for sustainability. During the event, discussions revolved around artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure projects and strategies for fostering bilateral cooperation. The delegation's participation aims not only to enhance Taiwan's visibility in the technology landscape but also to deepen international collaboration, particularly with Japan. The event was anticipated to attract over 60,000 participants, with significant representations from startups worldwide. The overarching goal of Taiwan's involvement in SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 is to build stronger ties with Japanese innovation resources through the Startup Island Taiwan initiative. This ongoing cooperation is set to advance technological innovation, contributing substantially to global sustainable development efforts. By sharing resources and expertise, Taiwan seeks to position itself as a leader in technological solutions that address contemporary environmental challenges.
