Story

In 2025, the popular ABC daytime talk show, The View, hosted a total of 341 guests. A recent study by the Media Research Center revealed that out of these guests, only two identified as conservatives, while a significant 128 guests expressed liberal views. This disparity highlights a trend in daytime television where perceived liberal bias overshadows conservative representation. Notable liberal guests included prominent politicians such as Senators Tammy Duckworth and Elizabeth Warren, alongside former President Joe Biden. The sole conservative guests were actress Cheryl Hines and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, the latter being scheduled for a return appearance soon. Further analysis indicated that The View primarily selects its guests to avoid critical scrutiny of its liberal cast, as noted by MRC associate editor Nicholas Fondacaro. This approach raises concerns about the show's commitment to balanced political dialogue. Fondacaro pointed out that conservative views were infrequently given a platform, suggesting that the show is tailored for a leftist audience, limiting any challenging discussions. In addition to The View, a separate NewsBusters study observed a similar trend in late-night comedy shows during the second half of 2025. These shows featured 90 liberal guests compared to just one conservative. The analysis involved five major programs, including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, noting that interviews were dominated by politicians and celebrities who align with Democratic views. Overall, the studies raise important questions about media representation and bias in popular discourse. Critics argue that the lack of conservative voices diminishes the diversity of opinions and reduces viewers' exposure to a broader range of ideas. With such statistics emerging, both The View and late-night shows face scrutiny over how they approach guest bookings and the potential implications for public dialogue around political issues.
