According to journalist Andersen, the late monarch was reportedly “quite dismissive” of the allegations against Andrew, despite concerns raised by senior members of the Royal Household who recommended suspending him from royal duties pending an inquiry. Andersen further noted that Prince Charles, the queen’s eldest son, attempted to intervene in the situation, but the queen maintained a close relationship with Andrew throughout the turmoil. He emphasized that the bond between Queen Elizabeth and Andrew was stronger than that between her and Charles, highlighting their shared summers at Balmoral, her favorite retreat. Despite the mounting pressure and public shame surrounding Andrew, it reportedly took significant persuasion from over 150 military veterans for the queen to strip him of his military titles. While Andrew's public royal life appears to be over, he has been invited to family events alongside his ex-wife, indicating a continued, albeit diminished, presence within the royal fold. A close family friend revealed that Andrew had assured his mother of his innocence on multiple occasions, which may have contributed to her protective stance. However, those close to the queen expressed that she should have been more decisive in addressing the allegations, particularly in light of the serious accusations made by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged sexual exploitation by Andrew when she was a minor.
