Story

In December 2022, Bryan Kohberger was arrested in Pennsylvania for the murders of four University of Idaho students—Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Kaylee Goncalves—who were killed on November 13, 2022. Kohberger's sister, Mel Kohberger, recalled warning him about a 'psycho killer' after the murders, unaware that he was the suspect being sought by investigators. While home for the holidays, Bryan appeared to avoid discussing the murders despite their proximity to his residence. As investigations progressed, law enforcement identified Kohberger as a suspect based on surveillance footage of a white Hyundai Elantra linked to the crime scene. On December 30, 2022, FBI agents arrested him during an early morning raid at his family home, which was conducted without incident. Following his arrest, public speculation surrounded his family's knowledge of his actions, leading Mel to express her anger at the unjust assumptions about their involvement. In July 2025, nearly three years after the murders, Kohberger was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for his heinous acts. The presiding judge condemned him for committing 'unspeakable evil,' emphasizing the suffering he inflicted upon the victims' families. Throughout the process, the Kohberger family maintained their support for the victims' families, denying any prior knowledge of the crimes.
