An audit conducted at Utah State University Eastern has uncovered troubling findings regarding Warren Tyler Agner, who was responsible for overseeing business development programs. The investigation revealed that Agner had not reported to work for a period of two years while still receiving a total of $157,470 in salary and benefits. This situation raises significant concerns about oversight and accountability within the university's administration. The audit further indicated that several administrators were aware of Agner's prolonged absence but failed to take appropriate action. Notably, Agner had personal connections with his supervisor and two higher-ranking administrators, which may have contributed to the lack of intervention. Compounding the issue, it was revealed that Agner lived with his supervisor's supervisor, a relationship that was not disclosed to the university, highlighting potential conflicts of interest. In response to the findings, the audit recommended several measures aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future. These include updating the university's policies on nepotism and cronyism, as well as instituting a requirement for supervisors to report employee absences more rigorously. As a result of the audit, Agner has been terminated from his position. His roommate, who was also implicated in the situation, resigned prior to facing termination. However, the two administrators who were aware of the circumstances remain in their roles, prompting questions about the effectiveness of the university's governance.
