Slovakia, represented by its Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár, announced on Monday, June 23, that it is prepared to support the EU's 18th package of sanctions against Russia, contingent upon receiving specific guarantees regarding energy supplies. Blanár emphasized the importance of addressing the economic implications of the EU's plan to disconnect from Russian energy sources by 2027. The Prime Minister, Robert Fico, has made it clear that Slovakia will not endorse the sanctions unless a concrete solution is proposed for mitigating the adverse effects that will arise from the cessation of Russian gas, oil, and nuclear fuel imports. The potential economic repercussions, including soaring prices and increased transportation fees, pose significant risks to Slovakia's economy, with estimates suggesting damages could reach up to 20 billion euros.
