The 2024 edition of a biennial fair dedicated to craftsmanship commenced on September 1 in Venice, showcasing a variety of independent makers alongside renowned brands. Among the exhibitors is Miki Eleta, a self-taught Swiss clockmaker known for his unique creations, who is presenting two of his latest table clocks. One of these, the Minute Muncher, features a gold-plated brass automaton that symbolizes life's fleeting nature, while the other, BY 21Dez12ME, is a complex U.F.O.-shaped clock with multiple functions, including jumping hours and moon phases. Another notable participant is Frank Jutzi, also from Switzerland, who is displaying a more traditional table clock. His piece includes a hand-engraved mainspring barrel and drive wheel, powered by a tourbillon mechanism, all encased in a rectangular glass case. This blend of modern and classic styles highlights the diversity of craftsmanship on display at the event. The fair is organized by the Michelangelo Foundation, which was established in 2016 by Johann Rupert and Franco Cologni. Their vision was to create a platform that celebrates and promotes superior craftsmanship, which has attracted both independent artisans and luxury brands under the Richemont umbrella. This collaboration underscores the importance of craftsmanship in the luxury goods sector. As the event unfolds, it serves not only as a showcase for exquisite craftsmanship but also as a reminder of the value of artistry and the stories behind each piece.
