In a pivotal strategic move, Diageo is set to open a new Guinness brewery in Covent Garden, London, following a significant investment of £73 million. This facility is expected to begin operations on December 11, 2025, marking the company's continued expansion of the Guinness brand within the UK. As the brand’s biggest market, Great Britain plays a crucial role in the overall growth strategy for Diageo. The Covent Garden site spans 54,000 square feet and will not only brew four permanent beers but will also serve as a venue for guided tours, tastings, and dining through two distinct restaurants. While this new facility marks an important developmental step, Diageo has confirmed that the iconic Guinness stout will still be exclusively brewed in Dublin. This decision underscores the brand's commitment to maintaining traditional brewing processes while expanding its reach into new locations. According to Barry O’Sullivan, managing director of Diageo Great Britain, there are ample opportunities for growth in the beer market, particularly in the realm of sports and seasonal sales. O’Sullivan pointed out that Guinness enjoys heightened sales during significant sporting events like the Six Nations and anticipates similar opportunities with the Premier League’s extended season. Moreover, he outlined ambitions to increase brand exposure during the summer months and with the introduction of their non-alcoholic version of Guinness. This investment is also expected to create approximately 250 new jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy. Diageo anticipates welcoming over half a million visitors to the new brewery within its first year of operation, which indicates a strong confidence in the brewery as a tourist and production hub. Grainne Wafer, global director for beer, liqueur, and vodka at Diageo, emphasized that selecting London as the location for this latest facility was a deliberate choice, noting that visitors to the existing Guinness Storehouse in Dublin often hail from the UK, thereby creating synergy between their locations.
